| What
is a typical day like for students at Wright Beauty Academy? |

Come to school, ready to learn.
After punching in on the time clock, you'll head to the theory room for
up to 2 hours of classroom work. Theory consists of reviewing the
chapters in the textbook, taking tests, watching demos or videos, and
other ways of learning that aren't hands on. You'll study everything
from Anatomy to Salon Management. Some days you'll work on projects
during this time, or perhaps have an outside educator from a salon, or
a product line. After a quick break, it's on to the Junior Room, where you'll spend the rest of your day learning your new career. Cosmetology students work on mannequins and each other, learning how to manipulate the hair, how to cut, how to color, how to retexturize. You'll add hair, remove hair, perform facials & pedicures, and generally learn everything you need to come onto the senior floor and prepare for life in the salon. Nail techs work on each other, on mannequins, and on tips glued to sticks. You'll perform manicures & pedicures (and receive just as many!), create artificial nail enhancements, and dabble in nail art. You'll also practice massage of hands & arms, legs & feet. If you are a full time student, there's a lunch break in your day. |

After punching in, senior students report to theory if scheduled. After theory, students head to the clinic area, where they spend the rest of the day. Students are assigned a wide variety of clients and services, based on the practice each student needs. Just like in a salon, no day is exactly like another. Today you may do several hair cuts and a perm, while tomorrow you may do a complete color makeover, including color and highlights, a new cut, and a new style. In between clients you work on a mannequin, practice on other students, and work on projects. On a busy clinic day a full time student can expect to do 6 or more clients, and each one is a great learning experience. Some days you may do all requests, while other days you'll have a mix of requests and walk-ins. And there is no better experience than working on people! Full time students have a lunch break, but usually it's worked around clients, and not necessarily always at noon. |

After punching in, students report to the nail/spa area, and attend whatever theory is scheduled. After theory, students work on clients or each other, performing manicures, pedicures, creating beautiful nail enhancements, and designing new nail art. Today you may do 2 spa manicure & pedicure packages, an acrylic fill, and a full set. Tomorrow may bring a pedicure, reflexology, and a french manicure. In between clients you'll work on projects, study, and be the model for your fellow students. |

Instructor
Trainees
|
The typical day for the
instructor trainee isn't typical at all. The instructor trainee learns
everything involved in running a school, from teaching in a classroom
to school administration. Your day may include working in the
administration office, compiling hours and MPA's for the state in the
morning, and teaching a class in the afternoon. Tomorrow you may be
asked to supervise the clinic in the morning, and demonstrate haircuts
(or full sets for nail instructors) in the afternoon. Each step of the
way you'll be supervised by a licensed, experienced instructor, and
guided through the Master Educator textbook in preparation for your
state board exam. |
